The Box of Sweets: Principles for and in Practice

 

Each of our Learners has an individual Personality, with learning strengths and weaknesses, with interests and unique thoughts, each one from different culture, with valuable emotions and dreams and most importantly with a Genuine Potential that must be unlocked by us, Educators and fulfilled by the Learner, in order to reach Happiness and Success. 

 

 

Learners with learning and assessment access requirements 

 

A variety of learning needs of students are being supported in international schools and  usually cover needs such as Dyslexia and Dyscalculia, ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Asperger, Learning Difficulties as well as Behavioral and Emotional  challenges. 

In all the above cases, Educators along with doctors and psychologists first engage in the identification of a student's learning, social, psychological and behavioral needs.

MTSS and RTI systems are the core of this practice.

At the next level,  the Learning Support Teachers construct the Individual Educational Plan (IEP) or Individual Learning Plan ( ILP)  for every student who requires support across the curriculum based on her/his learning needs, interests, strengths and weaknesses.

LEARNING SUPPORT in INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS

 

Learning Support consists of using differentiated teaching and learning strategies for every particular student who might experience learning difficulties. These strategies foster the inclusion of students across the whole curriculum and board and, in the case of international schools, across the IB Curriculum in PYP, MYP and DP.

 

In our World, this rapidly changing environment, with New Technologies arising, New Scientific Knowledge produced, with complex economic circumstances and with a clear rise in immigration, the Digital Citizen of Tomorrow should acquire new skills and abilities :
